First day @Novellus
I was supposed to write this @ july 18th, 2011 but due to some or the other work i wasnt able to. Atlas its time to share my first day excitement and experience @Novellus :-)
The very first day i was late by 5mins. I was supposed to be @9am. It was little embarrassing. All thoughts ran in my mind for the next 5mins. Decided not to be late from next day. Thoughts like, what would they think? Being a fresher its my duty to maintain time. First Impression is the best, Did i fail in giving good first impression? ETC ETC... Meanwhile receptionist called to Mr.Dinesh and informed about me.
Mr.Dinesh welcomed me @9.10am :) He's my manager's manager.Got to know that my manager would come late by an hour as he had got a new baby (later got to know that its a girl baby and her name is Aditi). Dinesh told that, i would be put into Scheduler(In short,Sched) team and Mr.Srinivasan will be my manager and buddy is Mrs.Yashashwini( Its my sister name :P) Surprisingly even my buddy hadn't come yet. I was little relaxed :-) Decided to be on time from next day on wards. Sri Kanth sir(one of my best teacher and mentor too) had advised his students to maintain strict in-time in any company.
Later i met Yashu @9.35am. Both got introduced. She informed me that i would be having a meeting in conference room @10am. Mr.Prashanth explained about the facilities that fresher get and few other things about the company. I already knew most of them as i had enquired it before even joining to the company :P so it was pretty boring session. It ended @10.35am. Sooner or later, Prashanth took us around the campus, showed server rooms, fire exit doors, labs, facility room, library and xerox,printer machine space.
Later spoke with Yashu. I was supposed to goto HR meeting @11.15am but instead went to status update meeting @11am with yashu as i wasn't informed about the HR meeting. In the status update meeting, i gotta know about my team-mates and the manager. Manager asked do u exactly know what we gonna do. I said "I have an abstract view, i only know that i have to develop tools which helps in the manufacturing of chips and semiconductors". He said, that's true in general. And he explained me about the team and about my work. Few things went above my head. Jist of his explanation was, Scheduler is an intelligent component which monitors the chemical composition on the wafer in the manufacturing process of the chips and the semiconductors. I clearly remember that he told "It seems to be easy but in reality its complex. You have landed in a complex world, Welcome to this complex world". I was little scared was thinking Had Education for the real world in PESIT :P and now got Entered into the complex world :) how funny!! :P My first impression on my manager was "He's too strict"(as he didn't smile even a single time, Later gotta know that he 's a cool guy. He's in the company from past 10years and he knows in and out of the company).
Later Yashu got a call from Mrs.Preeti. She informed me to goto HR meeting which is held in conference room, saraswati. All other freshers were waiting for me in saraswati. I was little comfortless. . Later @11.45pm, Mrs.Preeti,HR gave us employee form,gratuity form,provident fund form and instructed us to fill all those forms. Later @12.30pm went to have lunch. Till 2pm, all freshers were chit chatting :)
Again all freshers assembled in conference room, saraswati to sign for NDA and to collect our original documents. Preeti helped us. @4pm, ICICI bank agent came and instructed us to fill the form to open a salary account :) I got a cheque book, DEBIT card and Net banking card. After all those, i got an access card too :)
Huff.. done with all signatures now :)
@5.10pm, I went inside my manager's cabin. He was very cool :) Just a casual talk which went up to 5.35pm :) before joining the company, I had asked quiet a lot of doubts to my senior Ms.Chaitra. so he asked me I heard you enquired a lot about the company before joining... i said yes, coz when i asked about the company to the ppl whom i know and who are very well known in this professional field, i got mixed reviews. So to make sure i spoke with my seniors.. i concluded :) He told "In US, Novellus is a well established company but in India its still in progress. Dont worry company is stable" ( I gave a smile ) Later spoke about the day, travelling etc and then @5.45pm, i went back home with lots of hope. :)
A hope to start my career in a productive way :)
A hope to see myself being proud for choosing a good company :)
A hope to make my parents happy :) :)
A hope to lead professional life happily :)
Overall, Its always NICE to meet new people :) Every one were very friendly :) especially my team mates :) A good day altogether :) :)
Novellus is indeed a gr8 place to start my career :)
